Job insecurity from emerging AI technologies
Nowadays if we include various on trial beta projects of AI such as below:
These are just few popular examples where AI is far exceeding expectations and is widely used and helpful to users. Not just these but if you name many life touched instance such as — filters and analysis on social media, Surveillance systems, Broadcasting and live streaming are also emerging their ways to human lives.
Nowadays no one prefers human assistance but people goes towards AI voice assistant like Siri, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa etc.
Now some may think that this technology is replacing humans and eating up their job!! well this statement or psychology might be too exaggerating.
If you think of core AIM for design of these AI technologies it is to provide more convenience to users such as — Chatbots are widely used as first line of customer support to serve maximum user base possible with accurate information where humans have failed at some stages to scale themselves. Even today, many are still working in customer support but are they as attentive as AI chatbot? that’s a real question… growth and change is how nature runs and when humans are not growing and developing themselves to the potential, AI takes their place.
Stores like Amazon Go saves incredible time for waiting for billing or unknown mistakes from the cashiers, where many things might be called out as human errors this pilot program provides more convenience to customers!
Similarly for surveillance, most of the time security guard also rely on surveillance cameras only… In this case human may miss some details and relying on CCTV coverage, and eliminating human needs gets more advantage and instantaneous alerts.
It is still possible to keep discussing on details of every use case from chatbot to GitHub Copilot and iot device to autonomous cars or so called frequent human errors in health care. But these are enough elaboration to conclude one thing which matters the most — “It’s not AI that eats up human jobs!”. Wonder How? It is because when humans gave up excelling at their work and providing improved convenience to customers/users. This is called preventing natural growth cycle from majority of people. AI is not replacing anyone’s job or creating shortage, merely it is giving opportunity for human to excel at their growth.
Clearly it is up to individual take away with the emerging AI and how they see themselves fit in to the world. But the one thing is clear that humans needs to keep emerging as well at their work, find new innovative and efficient ways to fulfill the needs. That’s how the transformation of jobs can be seen clearly as AI is not consuming jobs of human but providing assistance so that humans can learn more, innovate more!
